Start of 2017 is under 2 months away.
Got the tickets renewed.
Checked out the Fall Games.
Keep peeking at the schedule.

Placzek and Reveles are gone from the infield.
Ryan Boldt's rookie Tampa Bay and Husker series baseball cards are on shelves (eBay).

Ben Miller is back!
Schreiber is hopefully rested.
Meyers, Alvarado, Schleppenbach, and Wilkenning!
With lots of young bats and a N.C. transfer,
let's hope their itching.

Pitching...
Burkamper, Hood, Eddins, Meyers, Palkert, McSteen, Matt Waldron,
and some guy named Luensmann.
Lots of impressive young arms.

Brings us back to the schedule.
Those first 11 games from Home are all Neutral Site games.
- UC Riverside went 26-29 in 2016 while going 12-12 in the Big West. But don't let their record fool you. Riverside opened last season with a 4 game series with Kansas St and won two. If that isn't enough for you, Riverside also stole a game from Arizona in their 2 game series.
- Oregon St did not make the 2016 Tournament despite going 35-19. The Beavers only had 5 non-conference losses last season. It was some bad Pac 12 conference series that left this traditional college baseball power sitting.
- Utah did make the Tournament last season by getting hot late and winning the Pac 12. The Utes were considered a Cinderella-story last season and look to continue their momentum.

So after those first 8 total 'tune-up' games
Want a reason to go to Texas in early March?!?!
***The Frisco College Baseball Classic***
- Oklahoma St was a 2016 CWS semi final team (top 4). You may also remember the Cowboys gave the Huskers their first 2016 Tournament loss with a 6-0 shut out.
- Arkansas is coming off a very down year for them at 26-29 and 7-23 in the SEC. This program is accustomed to winning a bare minimum of 39 games a year. Have to believe that 2016 was a fluke for them. Also will be mentioned (many times) is the Dave Van Horn coaching connection.
- Arizona was a 2016 CWS finalist (top 2). They finished the season at 49-22 while going 16-14 in the Pac 12. The Wildcats still needed 10 innings and 11 runs to beat the Huskers in non-conference play last season.
The four teams participating (including Nebraska) have combined for 9,300 wins, over 700 MLB draft picks and 46 CWS appearances.

That's the first 6 non-conference opponents, 11 total Neutral Site games.
Scared?!?! Stay home and curl up in a ball.
We need hitters and winners.

Next up, opening up Hawks Field for 2017 play
- Northern Colorado is the same team that opened up the Huskers 2016 Home play. Not to be disrespectful but the Bears have the worst record from 2016 that the Huskers will face in 2017 at 16-34. They did manage to go 11-12 in the WAC.
- Western Carolina was another Tournament team in 2016 that just so happened to give the Huskers their 2nd Tournament loss and ending the Huskers 2016 season. Welcome to Lincoln! Western Carolina made the Tournament by winning the Southern Conference Tournament bid. Overall they went 31-31 and 15-9 in conference play.
- College of Charleston was the a Huskers first opponent in 2016. The Huskers took the first game but lost the series. Charleston was coming off a 2015 Tournament appearance but took a small step back in 2016 by going 31-26-1 and finishing 12-12 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Impressively, they still were able to get Wins in series against teams like Florida St, UC Santa Barbara and Clemson.

That was the next 8 games (longest 2017 Home stand)
19 total non-conference 2017 games, so far..

Back on the road and the Huskers first 'true' Away game of 2017.
Hello, Spring Break in California...
- CSU Bakersfield fought it out with Northern Colorado in the WAC standings by going 12-14 but barely edging them in overall record of 19-37. The positive coming out of 2016 for Bakersfield was that from their many losses, most were close games.
- Cal Poly went 32-25 in 2016 and 12-12 in the Big West. Cal Poly is a good west coast team that beat Michigan, when the Wolverines were ranked, last season.

Then just one more non-conference game with our friends from Kansas St at Hawks Field before the start of B1G conference play.
That's 25 non-conference games, so far, in the 2017
- 11 Neutral Site games
- 9 Home games
- 5 Away games
before the Huskers go to Bloomington to visit the familiar Hoosiers.
but we'll wind this up with
***Creighton***

That's just over the half way point of the 2017 regular season.
and it's only April 4th.

B1G conference play is not an easy road either.
Again, @ Indiana
Maryland
Iowa - B1G Tournament runner up
@ Minnesota - B1G regular season winner, 2016 Tournament team
@ Ohio St - B1G Tournament winner, 2016 Tournament team
Rutgers
Michigan St - last regular season Home games (May 12-14)
@ Penn St
sprinkle in a few more non-conference games with UNO, K-State, and Creighton
and that's the end of the 55 game 2017 regular season

May 24th is the start of the B1G Tournament, location TBA

There's some notes gathered as we weather out the winter months, awaiting the Sun upon our faces at Haymarket Park.
Feel free to add or nit-pick.

What to expect from the 2017 Huskers...
Don't really like going there.
Expectations can make or break.
I expect the Huskers to compete every game.
Giving up should not be tolerated.
A bad day happens...
work through it, or
stand aside and let the next player up, build depth.
Let the hungry, EAT.
Earn your spot everyday.
Enjoy your experiences.
Good things will happen.
Go Big Red!

P.S.
I still want a B1G Baseball title.
Make it this year!
