The 2016 team came within one play of playing for BIG Championship with similar schedule (except @Indiana instead of @Michigan; admittedly a big difference). Edited: and Maryland instead of MSU
Are we underestimating what this years team might do?
Seems to me we are better/deeper at WR, LB, OL and DL, fairly equal at RB (although Newby played well that year), and worse/less experienced at QB/CB/TE. Of course 2016 QB experience a big advantage but Armstrong did not play well vs. Wiscy, OSU and Iowa.
A little hard to compare (4-3 vs. 3-4)
2018 vs. 2016
Z: Morgan/McQuitty >>> Moore/DPE
Y: Spielman/Jones >>> Westerkamp/Rahn
X: Lindsey/Williams === Reilly/Reimers
LT: Jaimes/Gaylord >>> Gates/Gaylord
LG: Foster/Raridon >>> Hahn/Wilson
C: Conrad/Miller >>> Utter/Decker
RG: Farmer/Wilson >>> Farmer/Barnett
RT: Farniok/Sichterman <<< Knevel/Conrad
TE: Stoll/Allen/Rafdal <<< Carter/Cotton
QB: Martinez/Gebbia <<< Armstrong/Fyfe
RB: Bell/Bryant/Oz/Bradley >>> Newby/Bryant/Oz (give Newby the edge)
DL: Stolt/Stille/D. Thomas/Davis/Davis/Daniels/Freedom >>>
Stolt/Dzuris/Maurice/Davis/Davis/King/Freedom
LB: Dixon/Honas/Gifford/Young/Miller/Barry/Ferguson >>>
Newby/Ivey/Gifford/Young/Webber/Barry/Ferguson
CB: Jackson/Butler <<< Kalu/Jackson
CB: Bootle/Lee <<< Jones/Lee
S: AWilliam/DWilliams >>> KWilliams/AWilliams
S: Reed/Neal/Dismuke <<< Gerry/Reed
is 2018 really that much less talented than 2016 team that almost won the West with a modified scheme?
If you told me OL would stay healthy and QB and Secondary play would be average this year, I would take the 2018 team. And if you would take the 2018 team, then why cant we win 9 games this year, and contend for the west, like the 2016 team did?
For just this year, which would team would you rather go to bat with and why? (@Curious Geovanny )
