According to Phil Steele, 20,000 Nebraska fans are expected to make the trip to Champaign, Illinois this weekend for the game against Illinois.

Illinois' Memorial Stadium holds more than 60,000 people.

Do you guys think the number will be higher than what Steele is reporting?

Either way, will be good to see so much red this Saturday!

I went last year. I think you guys that are going will really like it. There fans are really nice, and they have a great tailgating area set up. Plus, their lack of fans makes for a more spacious tailgate and easy access to the tailgating.

When they shake their keys to make noise - yell GO BIG RED! right in their face. They love that!

Go Big White till further notice.

Plan on making the trip to Minneapolis for my away game this year.

don't do that. You'll only make them angry and make them want to win........ and they haven't felt like winning in a long, long time.

I don't buy it. I mean, maybe so because it's drive-able, but Champagne isn't really an exciting destination, the team isn't much to get worked up over... but I guess, Husker fans travel well.

I just think with the game in Miami and another just outside of NYC, that trips to Purdue, Illinois wouldn't be as popular.

Doesn't surprise me, there were 20,000 plus at Northwestern last year. In a couple years, gonna start back up our annual road trip, looking forward to it. @kaz36 @sparky62 @4.6.3

So impressive you posted it twice!
The Northwestern game is an entirely different situation. Everyone can stay in Chicago and have a whole different experience than Champagne. But I'm always surprised by the number of folks who pay to go to a bowl game, even when the game is mostly meaningless.

I think it's different strokes for different folks. I'd never attend a game in Chicago because the city scares the hell out of me. To big for my liking. On-the-other-hand, driving to a small town like Champaign suits someone like me better. I always loved going to Manhatten, Stillwater, Ames and Columbia 'cause it was easy to get there. Although, I am going to the Minnesota game, namely because I have some familiarity with that area and also the Chiefs are playing there the next day. And as for bowl games; sure, the game might be meaningless, but if it's in either Florida, Arizona, Texas or even California, then it makes for a nice vacation and a chance to get out of the cold weather for a few days.

Not really, everyone can stay in Chicago Friday night and it's an easy drive to and from on Saturday. That's what a large group we were going with are doing, unfortunately we had to back out in August, and I know of other groups doing the same. The 2013 Purdue game had a large contingent of Husker fans so maybe you're on to something and some are choosing to attend that game instead.

NU drew tons of fans in Lawrence, Manhattan and Ames, a large majority that would travel the morning of. Granted, mostly were Nebraskan's but we've traveled well for a number of years. Champaign is a 2-hour drive from Chicago (Indy too), and a 2.5-hour drive from St. Louis. 20,000 may be reaching it, I'm curious where Phil Steele came up with that number, but it wouldn't surprise me. There are a lot of Husker fans in the Chicago metro area.
