14 or 15 portal players will be taken. Updated 11 and counting

I like your breakdown of needs. Definitely need help at all those spots. QB, running back, and defensive line are a priority. But we need help at many spots. Going to take a ton of NIL cash to bring in 15 quality transfers who can step in and contribute right away

I posted the other day that next year feels like Rhule 2.0. It is a great reset. Normally, that is a sign of desperation and portends a coming disaster. But in the NIL and transfer portal era it is the coaches who don’t bring in a steady flow of proven talent every year to plug holes that are going to be in trouble. Add in two new coordinators and it is really a different team.

Whatever works in becomming competitive and relevant again.

Please don't ever take the names off the jerseys. I have a hard enough time knowing who's who with 3 & 4 year guys. 1 and done guys will be frustrating for me.

Always need a solid base of HS freshman which I think we have. Just need to plug and play some dudes at key spots. We have our QB1 and QB2 to build around which is always good.

7 offense..
1 or 2 RB's
1 QB
2 or 3 OT or OG
2 WR...
7 or 8 on Defense
4 DL.
2 CB...
1 S
1 LB.
Thoughts?
Rhule's modified view toward the portal is made necessary by all the roster changes forced by the new 105 rule and the coaching changes. I hate to say it but Nebraska's team next year is going to look a bit more like Colorado's team with all that year-to-year player turnover. So next year will be different for sure but for better or for worse remains to be seen. The changing college football landscape has become an adventure where the ability to recruit from the portal increases in importance and the development of freshmen players over a career diminishes some.

At least half of the projected are linemen. This is where the emphasis needs to be if you want to compete in the Big Ten. All the sizzle headlines for the “skill position” players. Pay attention to the players with a hand on the ground. It all begins there.

And that has been pretty evident the past 6-7 years..

Dowdell (which autocorrects to diesel) might’ve hit the portal / patience lottery. I’m sure we will have some type of lightning to go with him, but racking up goaline TDs next year while only having to carry the rock 10-15x a game.

Yep. The coaches that blend transfers with high school recruits will be the best off.
I mean High school recruits only matter if they are ready to play right away. Position coaches and coordinators aren't staying around long enough to develop anybody in a system. I mean look at Dylan. He had two OCS in one season, and we could easily lose DH to a bigger payday. Hopefully we see smaller head coach contracts and paydays and larger position coach and coordinator ones to keep players longer to develop them. The quality of the sport is really going to suffer with kids sitting out most of a season in the portal without developing, then going to 3 or 4 systems in their careers.

We need at least on grown assed 6'3 + 300+ DL/NG type who is ready to play right now. Otherwise I'm not sure I wanna see many 3 men fronts next year. So far none of the portal guys we brought in fit that description. I like Judy but he's not that type. He's more of a 3tech imo. Love Van Poppel but to put him there imo would be a waste of talent. He's a big kid who can run and is explosive and be much better in the Ty Robinson role. We know Lenhardt isn't that body type either. Honestly hoping he drops a few bounds. He just seemed a bit less explosive last year with the added weight. Maybe it was something else (injury) but he didn't look the same as he did as a freshman.

Losing a guy like Carrol Jackson wasn't a big loss on the surface. But he had gotten big and strong enough to at least be a rotation piece inside for us. It hurts depth if nothing else. Maybe I'm missing someone but is there anyone there capable of being that body type and ready to play. Hate to put the true frosh out there even though I think he will show up 6'3 300 his body definitely needs to develop and mature more before he's ready in the BIG.

Keona Davis looks much bigger then his listed weight of 255 but I don't know if we want to bulk him up and slide him inside though.

Quality over quantity. Too many guys on this roster with no realistic chance of ever contributing.
Exactly. While it would be nice to have the good ol’ days back and Nebraska have 75 walk ons and a roster of 170, those days are dead. Old timey college football is dead. This is a 500 billion dollar a year business with free agency and huge payouts to the elite players and coaches. College football is now about acquiring by any means possible the best 44-50 players you can, buttressed by another 50 or so for depth. We need to get on that train and ride it instead of lamenting the loss of walk ons

Definitely agree we’re missing a true NT body.
Nash didn’t flash as much this year, but he absolutely helped clog the middle and take on some double teams.

Nash had a noticeable limp and was playing with a knee brace. Dude is a warrior. Ate double teams all year. IF they didn’t double team him and Ty they wreaked havoc

Thank you.

We need more money.

I've been thinking that for years. Love the history and everything the walk on program has done for Nebraska in the past. But times have changed. The sooner we get over it and get on with the changing times the better we will be as a team.

Right and if we are planning on playing a lot of 3 man fronts we need that at least. Big and strong enough guy to take on two guys and not get blown into the LBs lol.
