$10M in Athletic Profit Sent Back to Uni?

Imagine what an extra 10 million in our assistant coach pool would do. We could have the best assistant coaches in the country. Also Alabama spends almost double what we do in recruiting. How is it possible a more desirable school also spends more money? Over the last 20 years ticket prices and donation prices go up and then they give the money away instead of spending it on football. We blame the coaches but we have tried to do everything on the cheap for a long time even when we had money. The university is milking Husker fans dry without producing. It seems to me people on the university side have been lining their pockets with Husker fans' money while we are losing. That isn't profiting, it's theft and fraud. Their priorities are completely out of whack. Lists like these are a huge embarrassment. Get it together!

It has been proven time and time again that husker fans will show up in droves regardless of whether you win 12 games or 4 games. Doesn’t matter

Same concept holds for basketball and baseball.

Fans will pay the same whether they are being served filet mignon or a spam sandwich. In fact, as you said, prices cont to be increased for the right to pay for the spam

No reason to invest in improving your product if sales continue to be great

This proves that the sports programs for colleges are marketing departments for the school. I am not sure if the monies going back to the coffers are the source for academic scholarships provided by the athletic dept or if those monies are already proportioned... Whether you like it or not, private schools and universities are a business designed to generate a profit...

So we’re the short fat ugly rich guy with a gross skin condition that nobody likes? But yay, we’re fiscally responsible!

I know that’s cynical, but I have a tough time celebrating these “accomplishments” when we’re terrible in all three major men’s sports.

I’m not arguing that is the proper approach.

Just that sellout after sellout after sellout is part of the reason you get years 4-5’ of Frost. And years 4-5 of Hoiberg and being also rans in big ten baseball

The fan base is aging. Gen Z and for some part gen Y aren’t as compassionate about Husker sports as Gen X and boomers. We see more and more in state kids playing somewhere else. Heck, women’s softball is probably a CWS team if it keeps in state talent. Not a lot of great Sports memories for the younger one’s growing up. Likely the opposite. A lot of bad memories.

Programs just seems mostly focused to make money. needs to get back to actually winning. Building more and more facilities, for what? Time to invest in winning.

Are we sure this extra money and not the millions the athletic department sends to the general fund for tuition, room and board, etc for the athletic scholarships?

I'm not sure what to think about this

on one hand, we're #1
on the other, I'm kind of inclined to think athletic profits should be spent on trying to get better at athletics

After reading this article
I think we have a bunch of university cvnts who have been stealing money from the athletic department -- and therefore fans -- while we were losing. What I can't tell is if switching oversight to the Regents/President will make it better or worse. The lady quoted in the article is worried revenue will be taken out of the university and spread to the system, but Ted Carter is a big Husker fan so I think she is really just pissed her hand is getting slapped away from the cookie jar.

I have wondered about us having some fundamental problem at the university holding us back and I think it is now finally revealed. All that stuff may be fine for a national title winner to spend money on, but not after two decades of losing. They have been starving the golden goose and it's time to cut them off until we start winning national titles again. I never want to see another article about us making a profit and giving it away while we can't even make a bowl game. The nerve of these people is unreal!

I just spent the last 5 days in OKC watching softball. I am pretty familiar with parents on at least 4 teams playing in the WCWS.

I can assure you the two pitchers leaving the state had nothing to do with a lack of compassion about Nebraska athletics. One never considered Nebraska but not because the program wasn’t on top and one considered but decided to go play for the best college softball program in the country.

I honestly don’t believe that either would have played for Nebraska even if they were a top 10 team.
