10 takeaways: Did Tennessee or Florida State have a worse Week 1 debacle?

UT had the worse weekend of the two. At least Boise is respectable. Is GA St even FBS?

The Panthers were coming off a 2-10 season and were picked to finish last in their division of the Sun Belt. Given the Sun Belt’s bottom-feeder status, that put Georgia State squarely in the running to be considered the worst of the 130 teams in the FBS subdivision. And yet the Panthers just went into Neyland Stadium and humiliated Tennessee, while collecting a $950,000 guarantee check along the way.

NU clearly overpaid S Alabama

Missouri lost, Arizona lost, Ole Miss lost, UCLA lost...plus Tennessee. There where a number of power 5 teams that lost and struggled in week 1. Just remember, it’s week one. We have all seen teams look rough come week 1 but then look completely different the 2nd week and on.

Too bad we don't play Tennessee until 2026/2027. By then they will have fired Pruitt and Urban Myer will have them in the top 10.
I think Tennessee is a phock program forever. Its seems like they have been to only a couple bowl games the last 15 years. They fire a coach every 3 years

Nah, Urbs will be back in the booth/studio then after winning big and getting U$C back on probation. Winking

I remember getting trounced by them a few years back. Good times.
6 of the last 9 years they have been under 500 and the previous few years before that were not much better. They need to find a head coach and stick with him for at least 6 years.

Nebraska is feeling the effects of changing coaches, 3 in the past 5 years. Nebraska got lucky to get Frost when they did but he needs 4 or 5 years before people start complaining about the results l.

Frost is a Nebraska grown championship winning qb and was coach of the year when we hired him. He gets to stay as long as he wants as far as I’m concerned. Because no one will want to follow that if we are dumb enough to fire him.

IIRC Northwestern lost all of their non-conf. games last year and STILL won the West.
Man that was painful to type.

tOSU didn't beat the spread either. I'm painfully aware of that

Problem with coaching in this era is that a head coach just gets crucifed on various social media, 24 hour news and the internet. It creates a negative vibe about a program and impacts recruiting. It’s hard for someone to get 4-5 years anymore to turn things around. Not like the old days when you just had print newspapers and 6 o’clock news.
