Volleyball No. 2 Nebraska topples No. 1 Wisconsin in Game of the Century

Saturday's match was billed as College VB's version of the Game of the Century. It certainly lived up to the hype. Hit the link.

Serious question, can we pull a Barta on Guthrie and Taylor.?

We have gotten a good first hand look at how injuries decimate a roster and prevent players from becoming what they once were ( Fidone)
This is a business and with the additions of the 4 PAC schools who all recruit at a high level, we simply cannot become an assisted living facility for
badly impaired recruits and sitting on these ships for 5 years. Having said this, can we move on from Guthrie and Taylor? This would take us to 24 in the class with more room for healthy proven portal players. I know it sounds cold but it’s reality.

Bowl Eligility Within and Out of Reach

To those that predicted personal big stats and scores against NW this result should be humbling. We are not a football team that can convincingly beat anyone on our schedule. I never could make such bold predictions.

With football Deities challenging Nebraska every game and taking our players off the field the % to make bowl eligibilty decrease. We don’t have the depth on offense for sure to continue to lose 1-2 starters a game. That attrition already changed the trajectory for Nebraska already in my opinion. Yes, every team has to find a way to win, but it’s more difficult for first year coaches.

I like that Rhule has started to beat back the losing bug so we can find ways to win instead of ways to lose.

Iowa, MSU, and MD are beatable teams only if injuries stop or decrease, which we cannot control them. Circumstance and bad luck had limited production in all facets of the game and the butterfly affect will continue.

Turnovers and penalties is the other area Nebraska can somewhat control. I say somewhat because referees can impact a game. Haarbergs low release will increase tipped passes and the RBs fumbling showed up again and we saw that against NW. Heads up plays by defenders are part of the game for causing turnovers and I did expect a better positive turnover for us this year. Iowa’s MO for winning has been to make fewer mistakes, yet we make more than most of the B1G.

So I think injuries will be the main cause for Nebraska to not get to six wins in the regular season followed by turnovers and penalties third.

A bowl game is within reach but each game has made the hill steeper especially with injuries. The attitude of the players and the will to fight no matter the score will challenge this football team. The challenge is stacking and stacking and stacking.

Recruiting Huskers DB commit Callen Barta offered by Kansas State

I would keep an eye on this one. I exchanged texts with Barta after the offer.

"Yes I will give them a look," Barta said. "Any team who gives me a chance to play the game I love will always be getting a look."

He went on to say that he's still solid with Nebraska but is exploring his options. I do think that KSU will be a real option for him moving forward and it could be a mutual parting of ways. We'll see how it plays out.

OT: Duke

Can they make a CFB Playoff appearance if they beat 6-0 Fla State tonight? They'd be 7-1 and have this schedule remaining:

@ Louisville (6-1)
vs Wake (3-3)
@ No. Carolina (6-0)
@ Virginia (1-5)
vs Pitt (2-4)

Tough journey. I'd imagine their head coach would be hotter than ever to be snagged away.

Football Five most impactful plays in Nebraska's win over Northwestern

Mornin'!

It's 8:37 a.m. in Lincoln and I've already watched Malachi Coleman's TD and Isaac Gifford's 3rd-quarter tackle 12+ times each. Good Lord, those were massive plays. Wrote a bunch about those two plays and a few more:

Brian Kelly is unlikable in all the worst ways ... today running up the score on Army in kneel down time

LSU up 55-0 with 4 minutes left ... get the ball at at their own 30 with 57 seconds remaining after teams trade run it out/this is over get home safe drives ...

Kelly decides to go for extra jugular against the Army 3rd string & LSU tacks on one final 70 yard rushing TD with :57 seconds left - LSU's RB getting some much needed time celebrating by himself in the end zone as the LSU players weren't even excited to see the play happen against an opponent that was TKO'd by 2Q.

Kelly's life lessons & tips for ensuring everyone despises you will make a great Coffee Table book when Kelly gets let go in 2-3 years & is the one former HC that the networks actively DO NOT want on their TV programs lol
